Niclas Technau, from Max Plank Institute for Mathematics in Bonn, holds a seminar with the title "Fine-Scale Statistics, Number Theory, and Homogeneous Dynamics". Welcome to join!
Abstract: In the first half of the talk, we discuss and compare various statistics of sequences -- ranging from classical uniform distribution to modern fine-scale statistics (such as the pair correlation function).
In the second half, we report on joint work with Maksym Radziwill on the sequence \sqrt{n} mod 1. Its gap distribution was studied by Elkies and McMullen with tools from homogeneous dynamics, and is known to be non-standard.
This is a seminar in our seminar series on Dynamical Systems and Number Theory (DSNT).
