Abstract for Erik Avelin´s presentation:
This talk serves as an introduction to the recently developed field of metric functional analysis and explores some of its applications to ergodic theory. We present a new symbolic calculus for metric functionals and use it to give simple proofs of powerful generalizations of several classical ergodic theorems, including Kohlberg and Neyman's theorem about the asymptotics of semicontractions, and the multiplicative ergodic theorem of Oseledets.
