New route towards treatment for dermatitis and psoriasis
The Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy introduced Clinical Academic Groups (CAG) last year. Following a new call for proposals, it has now been confirmed that two new groups will start in 2026.
One of the groups is led by Enikö Sonkoly, Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, together with Gunnar Pejler, Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology. The group will focus on Atopic Dermatitis (AD) and Psoriasis, two of the most common chronic inflammatory skin diseases. Although effective treatments are currently available for many patients, there remains a clear need for safe, long-term, and more accessible treatment options.
The group wants to investigate whether it is possible to reduce inflammation and itching by targeting treatment at mast cells, a type of immune cell that is active in both diseases.
