Large-scale analysis of population studies (Cohorts.se)

We are leading the country's first and largest collaborative project to use population studies to identify risk factors for rare diseases, including several heart diseases.

Project description

At AWI, a national initiative, Cohorts.se, is being run to coordinate all of the country's population studies in a common digital administration with the aim of enabling world-leading research. Over the past three years, we have started the second round of analysis in the project, where we will study risk factors for several cardiovascular diseases (cardiomyopathies, heart failure, venous thromboembolism, aortic valve disease, aortic dissection, and pulmonary hypertension), but also other disease groups (gastric cancer, oesophageal cancer, small neuroendocrine tumours, and eye diseases). By analysing data already collected in several previous health surveys, the number of people will be large enough to allow us to identify risk factors even for these relatively rare diseases.
