No one can escape the online gaming companies' aggressive marketing. Representatives of the National Association of Gambling Addicts have warned of an impending public health problem while also calling out for clearer rules with tangible consequences in the event of violations.

In 2019, the Swedish government appointed an inquiry focusing on limiting aggressive gambling advertising. This is expected to be completed by mid-December 2020. In view of the reported risk of increased gambling during the Covid-19 pandemic, temporary gambling liability measures were introduced to apply from 1 June 2020. These are intended to strengthen player protection and counteract the occurrence of problem gambling.

Wednesday 16 September, U-FOLD focused on what science says in this context. An expert group consisting of researchers and representatives from various authorities and organizations participated in the seminar, which consists of both individual contributions and panel discussions. The seminar is also attended by Ardalan Shekarabi, Minister for Social Security and responsible for this area.
