Richard Bergström first guest in a new seminar series

The Faculty of Pharmacy starts its new seminar series with an exclusive lecture by Richard Bergström, Sweden's vaccine coordinator, who will talk on the subject " Covid-19 vaccine: Worthy of every Nobel Prize at once?". All employees at the faculty are welcome to pre-register for the seminar and accompanying Post-seminar mingle including refreshments and snacks.

“This is the start of an ambitious and long-term investment to offer the faculty's employees current presentations from prominent profiles of pharmacy. That we already at this opening seminar have the privilege to welcome Richard Bergström, in the center of attention and an alumnus of our faculty, is of course to aim high, but we will not settle for less, says Mathias Hallberg, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.

Richard Bergström received his degree in pharmacy from Uppsala University in 1988. Four years at the Swedish Medical Products Agency have been followed by, to say the least, a successful career based in Switzerland. Positions at industry giants Roche and Novartis led to the position as CEO at the Pharmaceutical Industry Association (LIF) and later the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA). In the summer of 2020, he was asked by his native country to accept the position as national vaccine coordinator during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

"My first thought was that this is a duty. I could not say no" stated Richard Bergström in an interview with Svenska Dagbladet. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed by the Swedish government as Sweden's vaccine coordinator. Richard Bergström soon became a household name in Sweden and he continues to be seen in the news feed, as recently as this week in discussions about a possible corona vaccine for the age group five to eleven years.

Seminar and Post-seminar mingle take place in Pharmen. The number of places is limited to 125 and is distributed according to first come, first served. The last date to pre-register is 1 December.
