U-FOLD seminar on addiction politics of the future greeted with extensive interest

The U-FOLD seminar Framtidens beroendepolitik • Narkotikautredningen i praktiken is greeted with extensive interest. Just hours after the meeting was presented on U-FOLD’s website, only a few seats remained in the Uppsala University Hospital's Gunnesalen.

“From the start, our ambition has been to make U-FOLD a strong regional platform with national relevance. An important tool is our arenas for dialogue on current challenges in the fields of addiction, and the fact that we are today attracting participants from all over Sweden to Uppsala is proof that our work is both necessary and successful,” says Fred Nyberg, founder and senior advisor at U-FOLD .

At the December seminar, the forum will highlight the highly topical Drug Commission of Inquiry and the measures recommended for how a continued restrictive drug policy can be combined with effective prevention work, good addiction and addiction care and efforts to ensure that no one dies as a result of drug poisoning.

“Given the topicality of the subject and great relevance for research, profession and politics alike, we could probably have filled a significantly larger venue. In this case, however, we are convinced that Gunnesalen offers the perfect format for creating the dialogue that will contribute to the work to identify the best direction forward,” states Mathias Hallberg, chair of U-FOLD and Professor of Molecular addiction research.

The meeting will be attended by Peter Moilanen, Head of the Swedish Narcotics Policy Center, who will provide aspects of future drug policies. The seminar is also be attended by Sofie Ahlholm, Public Health Strategist at Norrtälje Municipality, who will talk about early protective factors surrounding children and young people that can reduce the risk of ill health, exclusion and crime. The program also includes panel discussion The Way Forward, with, among others, Hanna Victoria Mörck (V) and Jonas Segersam (KD), politicians in the Uppsala Municipality.

“We have a strong line-up and the fact that, with a little more than a week left until the seminar, there are only a few seats left is of course very inspiring. Equally significant is the great professional and geographical breadth we identify among the audience, mixing representatives for research, the public sector, user organizations and coorporations. If the meeting turns out the success we aim for, it is very possible that we will return to the subject after new years, says Fred Nyberg.
