Winter mingling with alumni & future pharmaceutical experts
December is here with both old traditions and new meetings. Thursday offered both the Masters of Natural Sciences-challenge (Naturvetarmästarna), where the Faculty of Pharmacy meets the next generation of pharmaceutical experts, and the annual Alumni Night at Uppsala Castle, where those who have already earned their pharmacist licenses take a sniff on the (non-alcoholic) Glühwein.

On Thursday 7 December, Rosendalsgymnasiet traditionally invited to the Masters of Natural Sciences, a challenge where three students in school year 9 from each one of Uppsala’s primary schools compete in theoretical skills and laboratory experiments. In early 2024, the three best teams are awarded a study visit to the Faculty of Pharmacy.

The jury had – just as traditionally – a tough task selecting the winning teams, but with the help of Bobo Skillinghaug, Lecturer at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, Valsätraskolan, Katarinaskolan and Uppsala Musikklasser could end the evening with an invitation to Uppsala Biomedical Center. An honorary mention for great efforts in the lab was awarded to Stordammens skola.

After the competition, the Faculty of Pharmacy's Dean Mathias Hallberg and Deputy Dean Anja Sandström gave a highly appreciated speech (we recommend a look at the participating schools' social media feeds) about Natural Sciences with a few extra sentences about Uppsala University's many world-famous researchers and (very smooth) the important pharmaceutical research conducted across the street from Rosendalsgymnsiet.

A little further north on Dag Hammarskjöld Road, Uppsala University's alumni network hosted the annual Glühwein mingling at Uppsala Castle. The evening was characterized - surprise - by Glühwein with traditional accessories, but also atmospheric entertainment and, not least, discussions about lecture formats at BMC and the Faculty of Pharmacy's upcoming graduation symposium. Yes, the Farmis Alumni Association was there and represented by, among others, Edvin Stephansson from the Pharmaceutical Student Union, Nikolina Bolander of the Swedish Medical Products Agency, Hedda Magnusson of LINK Medical Research and Jörgen Bengtsson, Associate Professorby at the Department of Pharmacy.
