From the Faculty of Pharmacy: A very Merry Christmas & Happy New 2024
With renewed hope for a white Christmas here in Uppsala, it is time to summarize our Faculty of Pharmacy’s 2023. A look in the rearview mirror offers spectacular views that can hardly be done justice in a few sentences, but the scenery inspires us to try, writes Dean Mathias Hallberg and Deputy Dean Anja Sandström.

To name just a few of this year's numerous highlights, our new committees working with our first cycle programmes is making impressive progress, contributing important work in the ongoing development of our education. It is equally gratifying to see the continued success of our Complementary Programme for Pharmacists with a Foreign Degree, adding much-needed competence to Swedish pharmacy. Thank you all for your fantastic efforts.
Within the framework of our research training, the NorDoc 2023 Summer School provided valuable inspiration to our ongoing antibiotic research. We also follow our many interesting PhD projects, not least the ongoing collaboration that unites our research group in Pharmaceutical Physical Chemistry with international giants AstraZeneca, Ferring Pharmaceuticals and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, aiming to develop in vitro models to predict the effect of subcutaneously administered drugs – truly in line with our vision to contribute to a better and healthier world.
Looking at the university's third task, it is inspiring to follow our colleagues amazing commitment, not least in the form of all exciting books and films that contribute to bring our research into society. And these efforts do not pass unnoticed: In the QS World University Ranking 2024, Uppsala University climbs another ten places, now ranked 24 in the world in Pharmacy and Pharmacology, a recognition to be proud of.
If we instead turn to the crystal ball, our Faculty's researchers have achieved great success in a number of calls throughout the fall. This means that we already dare to promise a no less interesting 2024, but more about this in the near future.
Dear colleagues, alumni and friends: On behalf of the faculty, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2024!
