Science and Magic in focus on well attended Faculty Day
Thursday 1 February the Faculty of Pharmacy invited to Faculty Day 2024. With lectures by, among others, Evelina Vågesjö of Ilya Pharma AB and Sebastian Ueckert of Ribocure Pharmaceuticals, crowned by a magical show by Johan Ståhl, both auditorium and following mingle were crowded. "The Faculty Day is one of our most important forums and I really appreciate that so many of our colleagues prioritize to participate," says Dean Mathias Hallberg.

The afternoon began with a presentation by Dean Mathias Hallberg, reporting on the upcoming work within KoF 24, where Uppsala University will place an overall focus on research infrastructures and inter- and multidisciplinary collaborations. Within the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy, the buzzwords are Development and renewal within research and research environments, Collaboration, Recruitment and career opportunities and Strengthened connections between research and education.
Mathias Hallberg also talked about the ongoing work within Vision: Medfarm. Here, a lot of attention is paid to Centers: What is required to give them the best possible start, how long is it reasonable to provide support and what happens afterwards? Collegiality and an ambition to include and activate the Disciplinary Domain's Distinguished Teachers in a Mentoring Program are also on the agenda.
At Faculty level, the ongoing work on education and research within Regulatory Science has now resulted in a report, which will next lay the foundation for strengthened collaboration with the Swedish Medical Products Agency, industry and a selection of other relevant organisations. On the upcoming GU day, several additional activities will be launched with the aim to establish new courses.
Faculty Day 2024 also offered interesting presentations by Emma Östlund at Uppsala University's Planning Division who spoke about academic rankings. Sebastian Ueckert at the start-up biotech company Ribocure Pharmaceuticals lectured on The Potential of Oligonucleotide Therapeutics, while Evelina Vågesjö, CEO at Ilya Pharma AB discussed Challenges in Development of Advanced Therapeutic Medical Products, before Janneke Keemink at Hoffman-La Roche concluded the scientific program with Challenges and opportunities for PK in drug discovery and development.

“The Faculty Day is undoubtedly one of our most important forums for internal networking and I really appreciate that so many of our colleagues prioritize to participate in today's event. I also want to express a big thank you to the organizing group: Victor Agmo Hernandez, Ilse Dubbelboer, Agneta Ekholm, Lena Friberg and Madlen Hubert who made an impressive effort to create a relevant and very rewarding program,” says Mathias Hallberg.
