Elisabet Nielsen new Professor of Clinical Pharmacy
The Faculty of Pharmacy congratulates Elisabet Nielsen on being recruited to new Professor of Clinical pharmacy at Uppsala University's Department of Pharmacy. With this appointment, the Faculty of Pharmacy consolidates its position in research with a focus on Clinical Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, Personalised medicine and Model-informed precision dosing.

Elisabet Nielsen received her doctorate in 2011 at Uppsala University with thesis Pharmacometric Models for Antibacterial Agents to Improve Dosing Strategies in which she developed mathematical models aiming to promote more efficient drug development and improve dosing strategies for new and already available antibiotics. In 2012, Elisabet was recruited to the Department of Pharmacy, where she 1 April 2024 was appointed new Professor of Clinical pharmacy.
“This is of course extremely inspiring, and since research is a team effort, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to all wonderful mentors, colleagues, students and collaborators, whose support has enabled me to take the next step in an academic career that I truly enjoy. Now I look forward to form and lead our department's new research group in clinical pharmacy and to continue contributing to a rational and effective use of drugs,” states Elisabet Nielsen.
In autumn 2023, the Department of Pharmacy became the first at Uppsala University's Faculty of Pharmacy to have more women than men among its professors, as Maria Kjellsson and Sara Mangsbo were promoted to professors in Pharmacokinetics and Protein and Antibody Drugs respectively. With the appointment of Elisabet Nielsen, the institution further strengthens this position.
“I am very happy that we, as the first Department of our Faculty, have managed to achieve a good balance. My hope is that we, by motivating our employees and adding positive energy, can inspire even more young women to an academic career, which I am convinced will contribute to a broader approach throughout our organisation,” states Lena Friberg, Head of the Department of Pharmacy.
