Class 8A celebrating at Uppsala University's Ångströmlaboratory

The Faculty of Pharmacy congratulates Alice, David, Nadia and Valter (the middle school students from Uppsala Music Classes who last year visited our Faculty to find out if it is true that some of the world's best researchers work in their own city - see the result here) who, together with their friends in Uppsala Music Classes 8A just won the Regional final in Teknikåttan: The competition in technology, mathematics and science for all Swedish eighth graders, organised by Uppsala University in collaboration with nine other Swedish universities.

“Our entire class worked together to solve different tasks. We planned for a lifestyle that would cut our carbon emissions in half, constructed towers with flower sticks and took part in a quiz with questions such as whether blue stars are colder than red ones. It was a very fun day together with our class and, of course, extra fun that we actually won the entire Regional Final,” says eight grader Alice Mankert.

In Teknikåttan 2024, 20,000 eighth graders from all over Sweden have competed with their knowledge and innovation abilities. After the Regional Finals were completed at ten Swedish universities, it is decided which other nine classes that have qualified for the national finals at the Technical Museum in Stockholm on May 23, where 300 tech eight graders from across Sweden will participate.

"The students showed very good cohesion and great enthusiasm as they tackled the tasks. It was great to see how they all cooperated and got to speak. We are very pleased with the new arrangement at Teknikåttan where the whole class participates. It is more democratic and inviting, and we hope it will inspire students to engage in theses fields of science. Now it will be great fun to go to the Technical Museum and the students are very proud and happy to go there and represent both Uppsala University and Uppsala Music Classes. We hope they will have a fun and educational day," say Adam Hedenmo and Per Hagback, teachers at Uppsala Music Classes.

Our Faculty of Pharmacy keep all fingers crossed for our friends at the Uppsala Music Classes and hope to welcome them back as students at our First cycle programmes in due time!
