Christian Benedict is our new Professor of Pharmacology

The Faculty of Pharmacy congratulates Christian Benedict on being promoted to new Professor of Pharmacology. Since being recruited to Uppsala University in 2009, Christian has established himself among the leading researchers in the field of sleep with several highly publicized works.
On Sunday 1 June, Christian Benedict will take up his position as a new Professor of Pharmacology at Uppsala University's Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences. With this appointment, the Faculty of Pharmacy further strengthens its position in research on how insufficient sleep can affect our brain health in the short and long term.

Christian Benedict, new Professor of Pharmacology
“I receive the decision on my promotion with many emotions: pride, appreciation for my team, belief in the future, a sense of being lucky... and not without a certain tiredness, it has been an intense period, but on the other hand, no worse than that I am looking forward to celebrate this appointment,” states a happy Christian Benedict.
This spring, Christian Benedict has, among many things, offered sleep tips in Emma Frans and Clara Wallin's podcast A-kursen, presented new findings that insufficient sleep does not affect the positive effect that a healthy diet has on reducing the risk of developing digestive system cancer, and in the scientific journal The Lancet showed indications that fixed sleep routines can give us stronger protection against developing dementia.
“I can only confirm that the Faculty of Pharmacy and our Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences are powerful environments in which to grow as academics. Here we are treated with the best of conditions to educate students, spread knowledge to the public, and to conduct further research on why we sleep as well as why we sometimes don't, and to all those who sometimes lie awake and worry: always remember that a little sleep is better than no sleep at all!”
