Faculty researchers achieve top positions in Research.com 2026 rankings

Fakultetens forskare i topp på Research.com

Research.com has published the 2026 ranking of the world’s leading scientists. Per Artursson, Anders Hallberg, and Hans Lennernäs all achieve top positions with a D-index of 75 or higher. We also congratulate Fred Nyberg, Robert Fredriksson, Mats Larhed, and Anna Orlova on prominent positions.

In April, Uppsala University skyrocketed to 24th place in Pharmacy and Pharmacology in the QS World University Rankings, an improvement of 23 positions compared to last year and the university’s highest rank in a specific discipline. As is well known, strong positions in global rankings are important in the competition for funding and expertise – and in early June, further positive news followed with the publication of Research.com’s 2026 ranking of the world’s leading scientists.

Research.com bases its ranking on publications and citations within specific disciplines, which in turn generate a D-index (Discipline H-index). In an impressive 15th place in Swedish Biology & Biochemistry we find Per Artursson, Professor of Dosage Form Design, who with 349 publications and 40,923 citations has a D-index of 108. Robert Fredriksson, Professor of Pharmacology, also performs strongly, holding 30th place in Swedish Genetics with a D-index of 68. In Medicine, Hans Lennernäs, Professor of Biopharmacy, further advances his position among Sweden’s leading researchers.

“Among our faculty’s many strengths is its close integration with Uppsala’s clinical environment, and a position in Research.com’s medical ranking is, in my view, both a mark of quality and confirmation that our results are relevant and put to use,” says Hans Lennernäs, who also ranks 72nd globally in Pharmacology & Pharmacy in the Stanford University and Elsevier Top 2% Scientists list.

In Swedish Biology & Biochemistry, Research.com also places Fred Nyberg, Professor of Addiction Research, at 87th position, and Anna Orlova, Professor of Theranostics, who with a D-index of 63 reaches 132nd place. Anders Hallberg, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry and former Vice Chancellor of Uppsala University, ranks 47th among Swedish chemists with a D-index of 75, followed by Mats Larhed, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry, at 81st place.

“The fact that our faculty makes such a clear mark in major global rankings is a result of the professionalism and enthusiasm that characterise every part of our organisation. The fact that our strategic initiatives also continue to yield strong results enhances our attractiveness to students, researchers, and potential collaborators, and I am convinced that we will soon reach even higher positions,” says Anja Sandström, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
