Farmis Foundation new owner of Student Union building Pharmen
Farmis Foundation has taken over sole ownership of the Pharmaceutical Student Union building Pharmen. “It is an amazing feeling that we are able continue to offer a place where all pharmacy students are welcome and feel safe,” states union chair Sigrid Welin.
Farmis Foundation has taken over full ownership of the Pharmen student union house, home of the Pharmaceutical Student Union at Uppsala University. With Farmis Foundation's sole ownership, access to a common meeting place is ensured for all students at the university's Faculty of Pharmacy.

“That we now own our student union building is an amazing feeling that we have already celebrated with pomp, cheers and song. It makes us both happy and proud to be able to continue offer a place where all pharmacy students are welcome and feel safe,” says Sigrid Welin, chair of the Pharmaceutical Student Union.
For a student union to own their premises is not to take for granted. This week, Finnish media reported that the University of Helsinki Student Union's investment company Ylva – the group that manages the union's properties – is heading towards a necessary sale of the union building in order to avoid bankruptcy due to extensive debts.
“It is almost impossible to imagine a student union without a common meeting place. I cannot foresee how I would react if we were suddenly faced with the threat of losing Pharmen, and while I feel with the student union in Helsinki, it makes me even more grateful that the Farmis Foundation now owns this fantastic building,” states Sigrid Welin.
Facts
- The Pharmen union building is located at Dag Hammarskjölds Väg 16, Uppsala.
- Pharmen can be rented for various types of events, such as weddings, dissertation parties, dinners, or anniversaries. The large hall accommodates up to 125 seated guests. It is also possible to rent smaller rooms for meetings or other events.
- The house is equipped with an elevator, disabled toilets and spacious entrances to the various rooms on all floors.
