Full house as Alumni Association Farmis highlighted Obesity and Drugs

With a focus on obesity and drugs, Alumni Association Farmis filled Uppsala's Auditorium Minus to the very last seat. “The Faculty of Pharmacy is privileged to have so many dedicated alumni, and now we hope that even more will join,” say Dag Larsson and Anja Sandström on site at the Museum Gustavianum.
On Tuesday 3 March, Alumni Association Farmis kickstarted this year's program with a well-attended evening at the Museum Gustavianum. On the agenda was the highly topical panel discussion Obesity and Drugs, which filled Auditorium Minus to the last seat as Karin Meyer, CEO of the Center for Translational Research Sweden and the evening's moderator, welcomed both expert guests and audience members.

“Obesity is a growing public health problem that affects more than a million people in Sweden alone. At the same time, scientific progress paves the way for new treatments, and together with Gustavianum and the Uppsala University Alumni Network, we are today giving both our alumni and the general public the opportunity to learn more about the current state of knowledge,” says Dag Larsson, Chair of the Alumni Association Farmis.
The highly qualified panel included Ylva Trolle Lagerros, obesity physician and Professor of Cardiovascular Prevention at the Center for Obesity, Anders Toll, pharmacist and medical advisor at Eli Lilly, and Jenny Vinglid, Secretary General of the Swedish National Association for Obesity. Together, they highlighted both the complex challenges that obesity entails and the rapid medical development. Many familiar faces were also noted in the audience.

“Our Faculty of Pharmacy is undoubtedly privileged to have so many dedicated alumni who want to give something back to their alma mater. Today, we gather more than 850 members via our LinkedIn account, which helps us effectively reach out with information about activities and meetings. That tonight's event was fully booked so quickly confirms the strong level of engagement, and we hope to address more current issues soon,” says Vice Chair Anja Sandström.
The Alumni Association Farmis is a hub for everyone connected to the Faculty of Pharmacy. By promoting contacts between different generations of pharmaceutical experts, the organisation constitutes a valuable complement to the Uppsala University Alumni Network, currently uniting more than 30,000 members in over 130 countries.
“A vital alumni network provides an important link between academia and its surrounding world, but also a valuable resource in one's own career. In addition, there is a social dimension in nurturing friendships from your student days. Therefore, we hope that even more people will want to join the Farmis Alumni Association. Of course, it is free and, above all, provides access to many interesting events and opportunities,” states Dag Larsson.
