Hans Lennernäs new member of Academia Europaea

We congratulate Professor Hans Lennernäs on being the first researcher at our faculty to be awarded a membership in Academia Europaea – the exclusive organisation that unites 88 Nobel laureates and a selection of outstanding scientists in promoting education and research.
Since 1988, Academia Europaea is uniting a selection of Europe's leading researchers in a mission to advance the frontiers of science. This October, the organization will meet in Barcelona for its 36th annual conference, where they will, among many things, welcome the researchers who have recently been awarded memberships – one of whom is Hans Lennernäs, Professor of Biopharmacy at Uppsala University's Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences.

“In spring, I received notification that I had been nominated for membership, and this summer I learned that I had indeed been elected to Academia Europaea. This opportunity is both honorable and exciting, and I look forward to getting to know the academy and the many outstanding researchers who will attend the conference," says Hans Lennernäs, the first researcher of our Faculty of Pharmacy to join this highly exclusive society.
Academia Europaea currently unites over 5,500 members and no less than 88 Nobel laureates. A common denominator is that they all work at the forefront of their fields, with previously elected members at Uppsala University including Lena Claesson-Welsh, Carl-Henrik Heldin and Dan Larhammar. The university's former Vice-chancellor, Stig Strömholm, was elected to Academia Europaea already in 1989 and also served as the organisation's President during 1997–2002.
“I have received a very positive image of Academia Europaea as a platform for strengthened collaboration between European researchers from both Stig Strömholm and several other members. My ambition is to find openings to new, interesting collaborations, but also to contribute to Academia Europa and its future development," says Hans Lennernäs.
