The Swedish Cancer Society grants SEK 16.4 million to research at the Faculty of Pharmacy

The Faculty congratulates Olof Eriksson, Sunithi Gunasekera, Lars-Gunnar Larsson, Johan Lennartsson, Hans Lennernäs and Luke Odell, on receiving SEK 16.4 million for current and upcoming research projects from The Swedish Cancer Society. Stay tuned for interesting results.

Olof Eriksson, Professor of Drug development at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, receives SEK 3.0 million for his project CD69 PET of activated immune cells in immunotherapy.

Sunithi Gunasekera, researcher in Pharmacognosy at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, receives SEK 3.0 million for her project Novel Protein Engineering Strategies for Therapeutic Targeting of Mutant Calreticulin in Myeloproliferative neoplasms.

Lars-Gunnar Larsson, Professor of Pharmaceutical cellbiology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, receives SEK 2.0 million for his project Function, regulation and targeting of the MYC oncoprotein.

Johan Lennartsson, Professor of Pharmaceutical cellbiology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, receives SEK 2.4 million for his project Studies of the crosstalk mechanisms between growth inhibitory vitamin D3 signaling and tumor promoting growth factors.

Hans Lennernäs, Professor of Biopharmacy at the Department of Pharmaceutical Biosciences, receives SEK 3.0 million for his project Targeting metabolic reprogramming and cellular signaling with novel drug combinations for high-precision locoregional treatment of liver cancer (LOCoLIV).

Luke Odell, Professor of Medicinal Chemistry at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, receives SEK 3.0 million for his project Innovative Chemical Strategies for Combating Off-Target Toxicity in Antibody Drug Conjugates: Payloads, Linkers and Targeted Delivery.

“It is absolutely fantastic that in 2024, we have been able to distribute a record-breaking sum to important research projects across Sweden. Despite a year filled with challenging events that affected both societies and individuals, people have continued to support Swedish cancer research. It is thanks to their gifts that we can now finance the most promising research projects,” says Malin Sund, Chair of The Swedish Cancer Society research committee.

Facts

In the current call, The Swedish Cancer Society distributes research grants of SEK 887 million to more than 200 research projects, clinical studies and planning groups.
