The Swedish Research Council grants SEK 10.8 million to Olof Eriksson, Hans Lennernäs and Ola Spjuth

Olof Eriksson, Hans Lennernäs och Ola Spjuth

The Faculty of Pharmacy congratulates Olof Eriksson, Hans Lennernäs and Ola Spjuth on receiving a total of SEK 10.8 million in the Swedish Research Council Medicine and Health Call 2024. Important research with a focus on PET in immunotherapy, Toxicity during cancer treatment and Cell Painting to reduce animal testing will follow!

Olof Eriksson, Professor of Drug Development, is granted SEK 5.6 million for his project CD69 PET of activated immune cells in immunotherapy – a work continuing Eriksson's identification of a biomarker in our immune cells with the potential to enable diagnostics and follow-up on treatment of cancer and diseases of the liver, lungs, heart and pancreas.

“In the long term, we hope that our discovery will generate great value to drug developers, healthcare providers and patients alike. The Swedish Research Council's grant is as welcome as important for us in preparing our next step,” states Olof Eriksson.

Hans Lennernäs, Professor of Biopharmacy, receives SEK 3.0 million for the project Cancer drug-induced gastrointestinal toxicity: Pathogenesis and future treatment. The grant will paid out during the period 2025-2027.

Ola Spjuth, Professor of Pharmaceutical Bioinformatics who recently received the Attractive Innovation Project Award for – in collaboration with Jordi Carreras Puigvert – the development of a method to screen drug candidates, receives SEK 2.15 million for the project Reducing animal testing by integrating Cell Painting into routine safety pharmacology, to be paid in 2024-2027.
