On Thursday, 29 January, science-minded residents of Uppsala gathered to hear Peter Langguth, new honorary doctor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, deliver his public lecture, Lipoplexes and Solid Lipid Nanoparticles for Delivery of RNA.

At the Winter Conferment 30 January 2026, Peter Langguth, Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, joins the exclusive group that unites world-leading researchers, the high ranks of Big Pharma and several Nobel Prize laureates. One day before the ceremony, Langguth gave a well-attended public lecture in Lecture Hall X at the Uppsala University Main Building.

“It has been 32 years since I first visited Uppsala and its Faculty of Pharmacy. Beyond being a nearly perfect student city, I am still struck by the almost unique qualities that characterise the approach to research here. Ahead of this trip to Sweden, many colleagues have drawn my attention to the fact that Uppsala University’s traditions surrounding honorary doctorates and the conferment ceremony are, in many respects, truly unparalleled, and I am very much looking forward to tomorrow,” says Peter Langguth.

Professor Langguth’s research focuses on innovative and advanced dosage forms aimed at optimising drug delivery and has made several significant contributions to the pharmaceutical sciences. He has worked on the development and structural analysis of lipid-RNA complexes and has also established a GMP production laboratory that supports the manufacture and translation of novel delivery systems from the preclinical stage to clinical studies.

“Professor Langguth is an exceptional researcher who for decades has been an engaged, generous, and highly appreciated collaborator with our Faculty of Pharmacy. As expected, today’s lecture was very well-received, and we now hope that Professor Langguth will have a grand experience at this year’s Winter Conferment ceremony,” state Hans Lennernäs, Professor of Biopharmaceutics, and Mathias Hallberg, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy.
