Take the opportunity to learn more about sustainability, while getting hands on training by the experts on the field during a 5-day workshop in beautiful Trieste!
The University of Trieste invites PhD students to take part in a workshop on Pharmaceutical Sustainability Transition feauturing theoretical and hands-on training sessions focused on in vitro permeation tools to advance the 3Rs and the use of large-scale equipment to achieve Quality by Design in drug development.
Description fo the training activity
This 5-day and 5 ECTS course is open to Italian PhD students in Pharmaceutics as well to PhDs involved in the Nordic Pharma Train consortium which seek to get an in deep insight into how to adopt environmentally friendly practices in preclinical drug development. Specifically, this first edition of the workshop will focus on theoretical and practical (hands-on) training sessions on:
- In vitro permeation tools to promote Refining Reducing and Replacing (3Rs) animal testing
- Utilization of large equipment such as the synchrotron to pursue a Quality by Design in drug development
Learning goals
At the end of the workshop, students should be able to:
- Evaluate the sustainability impact of the empirical approaches utilized
- Perform in vitro permeation studies independently
- Contextualize the use of the synchrotron to solve pharmaceutics-related research problems
To enrol in the workshop please send an e-mail to Ass. Prof. Massimiliano Pio di Cagno: massimilianopio.dicagno@units.it attaching your CV and a short description of why you are interested in such course. Deadline for enrolment is 28th February 2026.
