NordicPharmaTrain Welcomes Three New Associated Partners to Strengthen European Pharmaceutical Collaboration
NordicPharmaTrain (NPT) is pleased to announce the addition of three new associated partners to its consortium: CMAC (UK), Department of Health Technology (DTU Health Tech) at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and Rinn Pharma & BioPharma, Ireland, (formerly SSPC). These internationally recognised research centres bring complementary expertise in pharmaceutical science and engineering, further strengthening the Nordic and European innovation landscape.
Their inclusion marks an important step in expanding NordicPharmaTrain’s collaborative network, enabling new opportunities for cross-border research, training, and innovation. By combining strengths in areas such as advanced manufacturing, crystallisation, digitalisation, and formulation science, the partnership will foster closer integration between leading research environments across Europe.
As part of this collaboration, the new partners will host visiting researchers and PhD students, providing access to cutting-edge laboratories and infrastructures for secondments and hands-on training. They will also support collaborative research projects in key areas such as amorphous pharmaceutical systems, digital pharmaceutical design, advanced formulation development, and manufacturing innovation, as well as other topics of shared interest.
In addition, Rinn Pharma & Biopharma, CMAC, and DTU Health Tech will contribute actively to NordicPharmaTrain’s workshops, webinars, and training programmes, helping to equip the next generation of scientists with critical interdisciplinary skills. They will participate in annual consortium meetings and thematic working groups, strengthening alignment and knowledge exchange across the network.
The partnership is designed to be mutually beneficial. In return, the new associated partners gain enhanced access to NordicPharmaTrain’s collaborative ecosystem, including expanded opportunities for joint research projects, shared expertise, and participation in European funding initiatives. They also benefit from increased visibility within the Nordic research community, as well as access to a broader pool of researchers and PhD candidates for exchange and secondment activities.
Furthermore, this collaboration promotes researcher mobility and the open sharing of knowledge, creating a dynamic and interconnected environment for innovation. Together, the partners will explore new opportunities for joint publications, collaborative grant proposals, and long-term strategic research initiatives.
Through this expansion, NordicPharmaTrain continues to strengthen its mission to advance pharmaceutical sciences by connecting top-tier research centres, supporting talent development, and driving impactful collaboration across the Nordic region and Europe.
About the organizations:
CMAC is an internationally leading medicines manufacturing research centre led by the University of Strathclyde. Combining academic excellence with applied and pre-competitive research, CMAC partners with industry, academia and innovation stakeholders, including government and funding agencies, to transform medicines development, manufacture, and supply.
Its National Facility and portfolio of projects enable industry collaboration on cutting-edge research. Through advanced training and translation programmes, CMAC equips researchers and professionals with the skills to lead innovations in digital pharmaceutical manufacturing, supporting the sector’s evolution toward more resilient, sustainable and patient-focused solutions.
DTU Health Tech is focused on advancing pharmaceutical technological and sensing innovation, with a strong emphasis on process understanding and advanced manufacturing and characterization. It brings together academia and industry to improve how medicines are developed and manufactured.
DTU Health Tech’s main research areas include formulation science, advanced drug delivery systems, process modelling, digital tools (such as AI and data analytics), and continuous manufacturing approaches. It aims to enable smarter, more flexible, and more sustainable production of pharmaceuticals.
Key partners include various departments at DTU and other academic collaborators, along with pharmaceutical and biotech companies and clinicians. Through these partnerships, DTU Health Tech supports innovation by translating research into innovative and industrial solutions, together with training highly skilled researchers—helping to modernise pharmaceutical development and manufacturing.
Rinn Pharma & Biopharma Ireland is part of the Research Ireland funded Rinn Network (rinn-network.ie). Rinn empowers radical collaboration that operates across multiple research bodies in partnership with industry, government and wider stakeholders to create a unique research and innovation ecosystem of international significance and scale.
Hosted at the University of Limerick, Rinn Pharma & BioPharma evolved from SSPC, the Research Ireland Centre for Pharmaceuticals. As a transdisciplinary research centre, it addresses two key challenges in drug development: creating patient-centred medicines for diverse populations and embedding sustainability across the pharmaceutical development and manufacturing lifecycle. The centre brings together leading researchers, industry partners, and emerging talent to deliver innovative solutions to these critical challenges.
