Luke Odell is new Professor of Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry

The Faculty of Pharmacy recruits Luke Odell to the newly established Professorship in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, a strategic investment that is expected to strengthen Uppsala University’s and the Uppsala University Hospital's already prominent position in imaging.
The Faculty of Pharmacy congratulates Luke Odell who will take up Uppsala University's new professorship in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry on Thursday 1 May, with organisational affiliation at the Department of Medicinal Chemistry. Luke Odell is a former Professor of Medicinal Chemistry with a scientific focus on the development of chemical tools for, among many things, molecular and antibacterial imaging.

“We already have well-developed collaborations with the Uppsala University Hospital's PET Center and Uppsala University's research environments in Theranostics and Translational PET imaging. The Faculty of Pharmacy's investment in a professorship in Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry gives us the opportunity to further gather our strengths and thereby consolidate Uppsala's already prominent position in imaging,” states Luke Odell.
As new Professor of Radiopharmaceutical Chemistry, Luke Odell will specialize his research in the development of tracers with the aim to contribute to increased knowledge about diseases, improved diagnostics and more detailed information about how individual patients react to ongoing treatments.
“The fact that we can now to an even greater extent bridge preclinical drug research and patient-centered healthcare strengthens our possibilities to directly benefit the people who are in focus of our work. This is of course incredibly inspiring and we will soon begin recruitments to strengthen our team where we identify potential for further development,” says Luke Odell.
