Successful Education-days highlighting recruitments and prescriptionists

GU-dag på Farmaceutiska fakulteten

A new academic year is approaching and 21-22 August the Faculty of Pharmacy arranged Education Days. Over 90 participants on site at Enköping's Haga Slott meant a new attendance record and Anja Sandström, Deputy Dean of Education, reports a positive and committed atmosphere.

A well paced program, covering everything from Student Recruitment to AI in teaching and the Professional role of a prescriptionist, was met with great interest at the 2024 Education Days. On site at Haga Slott, a new attendance record was set and in the digital quick survey conducted at the end of the meeting, "Relevant", "Eye opening" and "Superb schedule" are recurring reviews.

Prescriptionist alumni Homecoming 2024

“We provided a lot of space for our Bachelor of Science Programme in Pharmacy, including a presentation from HERO that analyzed the background of our student groups. We also met two alumni who talked about their working days at Apoteket and the Uppsala University Hospital. Both elements were very successful, something that was confirmed by both spontaneous feedback and our review of the outcome of the survey we carried out onsite,” says Deputy Dean Anja Sandström.

As previously reported, the Bachelor of Science Programme in Pharmacy faces the challenge of filling study places, and following this summer's high-profile seminar at the Almedal Week, national campaigns are being prepared, aiming to strengthen the visibility and attractiveness of the pharmaceutical professions, thus the recruitment of new students to the Faculty programmes.

“We learned about the ongoing production of a film that we will target at potential students, as well as the ongoing strategical work to design recruitment efforts to strengthen our visibility towards target groups that we have not yet managed to reach fully. We also listened to a presentation of Uppsala University's impressive work to welcome and build communities for international students, and here I see numerous valuable elements and ideas to build on,” states Anja Sandström.

Appreciated feature Education days style

Also on the agenda was a presentation of Practicum, the newly furnished training rooms at the Uppsala Biomedical Center that are up for inauguration in the autumn, Inspirational lectures with a focus on AI in teaching, Possibilities to do laboratory degree projects within 15 credits and Examination review including written reflections – but also ample space for team building and spontaneous conversations.

“Moments to interact and exchange experiences with all those working in different ways with our educations and students who we do not meet on a daily basis is highly important. We therefore prioritized to leave plenty of time for this, and with hindsight, that is what the vast majority emphasize when asked what they felt was extra good. All in all, we had two successful days and bring with us a lot of value while awaiting the students' arrival in Uppsala!”
