Title of talk:
“THE COST OF BORDERS”
Heba Gowayed is an Assistant Professor at CUNY HUNTER COLLEGE and Graduate Center. Her research focuses on the people who migrate across borders and the unequal and violent institutions they face. Her book project, The Cost of Borders, examines borders, from Lesbos to Gaza to Tijuana, highlighting how inequalities fluctuate over time and space and how they differ depending of who is attempting to cross. Her book, Refuge, was published by Princeton University Press (2022). She has also published in American Behavioral Scientist, Gender & Society, and Ethnic & Racial Studies, as well as The Guardian, Slate, and Al Jazeera English.
