KoF 2024 Research Evaluation Report

We have just received the report from an extensive research evaluation of our department.

“The Department has a notably collegial atmosphere, with a flat hierarchy and a lot of formal and informal common activities … Features of the Department’s collegial environment are central for the research excellence, such as the feedback given by colleagues at regular research seminars. “

The report emphasizes how the culture of the department facilitates academic results. Speaking of results, the panel offers the following slightly stats-heavy comment:

“The Department boasts excellent research outputs, with an increasing publication rate in first-tier, general social science journals. It demonstrates a very high citation impact across all the considered periods. Specifically, the MNCS is 2.38, and publications among the top 10% most cited papers make up 26.4%. These numbers are by far the best in the Faculty of Social Sciences and also very high in an international comparison”

For their report, the international panel of professors conducted staff interviews and had access to different background materials, including the KoF24 self-assessment report, bibliometric data, and overviews of department finances and staff composition.

We thank the panel consisting of Kristin M. Bakke (University College London), Svend Erik Skaaning (Aarhus University), and chair Jan Ångström (Swedish Defence University) for their thorough work and especially for the helpful suggestions on how we can further improve!
