Three important projects funded by Swedish Research Council (VR)

Our researchers have been awarded grants by Vetenskapsrådet (VR) for three exciting and important projects:

  • A project grant for research into societal preparedness and security has been granted to the project ‘Attacks on first responders: Peace- and war-time dynamics, risk and crisis preparedness’ The project led by Kristine Höglund, with co-applicant Sara Lindberg Bromley, will investigate the risk factors associated with attacks on first responders, and the types of responses and preparedness necessary to prevent and de-escalate such violence. The project will primarily focus on first responders in Sweden but also learn from the wartime cases of Ukraine and Syria to inform strategies for emergency response for situations of threat and crises

  • A project grant for research into the social consequences of digitalisation has been granted to the project ‘Cooperate or compete? Potentials and perils of deploying AI for International Water Dispute Management’ The team is led by Ashok Swain and includes Stefan Döring, Susanne Schmeier, (IHE Delft Institute for Water Education) as well as affiliated visiting researchers Kyungmee Kim and Florian Krampe.

  • A project grant for research into crime: crime prevention, gender equality and domestic violence has been granted to the project ‘Conflict or cooperation? Civil society, the police and crime prevention in vulnerable areas’ The project led by Kristine Höglund, with co-applicant Emma Elfversson, will address civil society’s role and interactions with the police in Swedish crime prevention, asking: How and why do civil society form conflictual or cooperative relations with police, and how can conflict be transformed into cooperation?
