Call for Applications: Claude Ake Visiting Chair 2026

The Nordic Africa Institute and Uppsala University invite applications for the Claude Ake Visiting Chair 2026, a prestigious fellowship opportunity for senior African scholars working in the fields of peace, conflict, democracy, and human rights.

The Visiting Chair offers scholars the opportunity to spend three months in Uppsala, Sweden, in a stimulating and supportive research environment that allows for full concentration on academic work. The fellowship is designed to support advanced research, with no teaching obligations during the residency.

The position is fully funded and includes a daily allowance, as well as full coverage of travel and accommodation expenses. This ensures that fellows can focus entirely on their research without financial constraints.

In addition to dedicated research time, the Claude Ake Visiting Chair provides valuable opportunities for professional exchange and collaboration. Fellows will engage with leading researchers and interact with Nordic policymakers, expanding their academic and policy-oriented networks. The fellowship also emphasizes knowledge dissemination, with opportunities to participate in academic seminars and policy events organized by the Nordic Africa Institute and Uppsala University.

The deadline for applications is 1 February 2026. Further information about eligibility criteria and application procedures is available on the Nordic Africa Institute’s website at www.nai.uu.se/claudeake.
