Research Sprint: Arms Control & AI Governance - Apply now

The intersection of weapons oversight and AI governance raises critical questions: Do more dangerous technologies demand stricter control? Should the same logic apply to AI? Does rigorous verification deter participation, or does it build trust? And what lessons can 80 years of arms control teach us about governing emerging technologies?

The AMC Research Sprint invites researchers, students, and practitioners to explore these questions, working collaboratively in small teams using the AMC Arms Control datasets—one of the most comprehensive collections of data on disarmament agreements and negotiations.

Why Participate?

By joining the sprint, you can:

  • Contribute to policy-relevant research on nuclear risk and AI governance
  • Connect with a network of experts across AMC and AI safety communities
  • Build your portfolio with a concrete, shareable output—a blog post, policy brief, or data visualization

The best outputs will be featured in the AMC newsletter, on the website, or presented as a poster at the AMC Annual Conference (June 2026).

How It Works

  1. Form a team of 2–4 participants, or apply individually and let us match you.
  2. Select a research challenge from curated options with dedicated datasets.
  3. Work collaboratively over two days, with live facilitator support.
  4. Present your findings at the end of Day 2.

Participants can produce data visualizations, policy briefs, or blog posts to be shared with AMC channels.
