In 1999, Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes became Professor of Pharmacokinetics with Pharmacodynamics, thus being the first female professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy. In 2017, she was appointed the first female Dean at the Faculty of Pharmacy - and in May 2023, Margareta is awarded The Elder Gustaf Adolf Medal in gold by Uppsala University, once again as the first woman at the same faculty.

Margareta Hammarlund-Udenae's positions of trust at the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy include chair of the Undergraduate and Master’s Education Committee 1999–2003 and vice-chair of the Research Training Committee. As Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy in 2017–2020, Margareta worked intensively on the successful restructuring of the faculty in 2019/20.

Uppsala University's motivation for the Gustaf Adolf Medal states that Margareta Hammarlund-Udenae's 40+ year career has been characterized by combining new methods and influences with lessons learned from various national and international networks, in a continuous effort to further develop the operations to meet future needs.

Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes is currently conducting the project Cellular membrane transporters and endothelial heterogeneity in the development and prevention of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (PreventCIPN) with funding from the Swedish Research Council. She is also involved in the preparations for the international conference Cerebrovascular Biology which will be held in Uppsala in June 2023.

“The Faculty of Pharmacy’s research environment for Translational PKPD is in a positive generational shift, and after successfully hosting the conference Translating PKPD - (Retro)Perspectives in 2022, we look forward to this year's meeting place. The fact that I, with the Swedish Research Council's grant, have the opportunity to take part in this exciting development, and also to continue following a number of highly interesting research leads, is of course something I place great value on, says Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes.
