Maria Tregubova, masterstudent, Uppsala universitet: "Transformation of marriage: nonsense or necessity?"

In this paper Tregubova draws on the work of feminist ethicist Elisabeth Brake and asks whether marriage is a valuable institution. Exploring the reasons for marriage seen against a background of existing norms and ideals in modern Western society, she asks what grounds there are for upholding the institution of marriage.

Following Brake's ideas and her notion of amatonormativity, Tregubova seeks to answer the questions of whether the moral value of marriage is inherent and significant in secular and civil contexts.
