First Seminar within AI4Physics Initiative
The first seminar within the new initiative AI4Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy was held 19 November 2024.
AI4Physics is a new initiative at Uppsala University, which aims at supporting the use of artificial intelligence and machine learning in research throughout the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
At the seminar Miguel Marques, leader of ICAMS at the University of Bochum, presented how his research group are developing AI methods for the search and discovery of new materials.
The seminar was well attended by researchers through-out the Department of Physics and Astronomy. The discussions continued over a lunch buffet where researchers at the department presented AI-supported research for neutrino physics, materials theory and high energy physics.
“I was happy to see so many colleagues at the inaugural event, and that there were lively discussions across research program boundaries,” says Magdalena Larfors, Professor in Theoretical Physics and coordinator for the AI4Physics initiative.
The next planned AI4Physics event is a seminar in February by Jennifer Ngadiuba, Fermilab Wilson Fellow, who has developed ultra-fast machine learning techniques for particle physics experiments at CERN.
