Seminar: SPIDI: the search for disk-embedded, inner planetary systems

  • Date: 5 May 2022, 14:00–15:00
  • Location: Ångström Laboratory, 90103Å and Zoom: https://uu-se.zoom.us/j/62091586806
  • Type: Seminar
  • Lecturer: Jérôme Bouvier, Grenoble Alpes University

I shall review the motivations and recent progress that led to the "Star-Inner Disk-Planets Interactions" (SPIDI) project, whose long-term goal is to search for nascent inner planetary systems still embedded in the circumstellar disks of young stars. The challenge is to isolate a planetary signal buried in the large variability of young stars induced by the magnetic star-disk interaction. I will thus review our current understanding of the magnetospheric accretion process in young stars and present a few directions we might want to explore towards the goal of detecting and characterizing disk-embedded inner planets.

Kim Pouilly will be the chairperson. There will be lunch with the speaker before the seminar (leaving at around 12:25). There will be fika in the astronomy corridor (Hus 9, Plan 5) after the seminar.
