Exoplanet science has come a long way since its birth in the early 1990s, with different detection techniques uncovering different regions of the planet parameter space. High contrast imaging plays an important role in gathering missing pieces of this puzzle. Developments in theoretical knowledge as well as instrumentation have, in the past decade, pushed the boundaries of what high-contrast imaging can achieve, both in terms of detection sensitivity and constraining planet properties. Furthermore, high-contrast techniques applied to high dispersion spectroscopy has lately proven useful in studying the atmospheres of exoplanets directly. In this talk, I will discuss the basics of high-contrast imaging and its application to high dispersion spectroscopy, illustrated using examples from my own work.

Sema Caliskan will chair the seminar. There will be lunch at Sven Dufva, departing from the astronomy corridor (Hus 9 Plan 5) at 12:20. As always, fika in the astronomy corridor after the seminar (all are welcome)!
