Liangliang Shang will be Working with new Heavy Quarks at Particle Colliders
In the middle of August 2023 Liangliang Shang from Henan Normal University in China will join the division of High Energy Physics as a guest research (visiting scholar) for about a year.
Liangliang Shang holds a position as Associate Professor and is the Director of the Institute of Theoretical Physics at the School of Physics, Henan Normal University in China. He has received a scholarship from the China Scholarship Council for his research stay at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University.
Liangliang currently focuses on the High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) at CERN in his research and he will be working with new kind of colliders, HE-LHC and FCC-hh, that have not yet been finalized. In his work he will focus on data simulations and analysis to study various aspects of collider physics, such as kinematic distributions, event simulations, and the exclusion or discovery of new particles.
"My research aims to explore new phenomenology, understand fundamental particles and their interactions. Now, I am mainly engaged in analyzing the signatures of vector-like particles using model-independent strategies at present and future colliders", says Liangliang Shang.
Liangliang chose to come to Uppsala University because of a collaborative agreement with Liangliang's home university, Henan Normal University, and because Professor Stefano Moretti at the Division of High Energy Physics specializes in a research field that aligns closely with his, and also possesses extensive expertise within the same area. During his research stay, he will collaborate with professors, researchers, and fellow scholars in his specific field of study at Uppsala University.
"I expect that the majority of my collaborations will be within the High Energy Physics division. This includes researchers like Stefano Moretti and Gunnar Ingelman, but I am open to work with researchers from various fields. These collaborations will help broaden my research perspectives and facilitate knowledge sharing", says Liangliang Shang.
The research he will be conducting at Uppsala University is directly related to his work back home and Liangliang thinks that it will contribute to the advancement of his research field and align with the ongoing research projects in China.
"My research here will provide me with access to resources, expertise, and collaborations that are not available at my home university. This exposure and knowledge exchange will enhance the quality and depth of my research, ultimately benefiting my research back home", says Liangliang Shang.
