Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez leads working group for the European Strategy for Particle Physics

Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez is a working group leader for the upcoming update of the European Strategy for Particle Physics, coordinated by the CERN Council to ensure that Europe remains at the forefront of particle physics research.

The European Strategy for Particle Physics is a plan to guide the long-term future of particle physics research in Europe and will be updated in the coming months.

Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez is part of the extended Physics Preparatory Group, as a convener of the Beyond the Standard Model Working Group. Right now the working group is defining benchmarks and selecting experts.

– Within my role I will appoint a committee of experts in the subject area and write the Beyond the Standard Model section of the Briefing Book that will inform the strategy update, says Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez, Senior Lecturer in High Energy Physics at the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

The core of the work will be done in 2025 and the working group will set the scientific priorities for the community and recommend the next particle collider to be built at CERN. The process will involve the particle physics community worldwide and inputs will come from different countries, future collider projects and also individuals.

– I think it is great for Uppsala University and Sweden that a Swedish researcher is a part of the update of the strategy at this level, says Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez.
