Associate Professor Laura Ferreri, Lumière University Lyon 2 (France): "Music and Memory: From Pleasure to Cognition"

Presentation
Music is one of the most pleasurable stimuli in our lives. Although acting via the same circuitry of primary rewards as food or sex, music does not provide direct survival advantages, as primary pleasures do. This raises crucial questions about the nature and possible application of music reward-related signals. By providing behavioral and neuropharmacological evidence, this talk will explore the hypothesis that dopamine-dependent musical reward might play a crucial role in driving improvements in higher cognitive functions, such as learning and memory. Professor Ferreri completed her PhD in Cognitive Psychology at the CNRS LEAD laboratory in Dijon and currently works as a lecturer. She is a member of the Laboratory for Cognitive Mechanisms Studies (EMC) and is also a winner of the 2019 IMPULSION Grant.
