Martina de Witte, University of Amsterdan: "Can music interventions reduce stress? Outcomes and applications"

Abstract
Music is increasingly being used as an intervention for stress reduction in both medical and mental healthcare settings. In this talk, Dr. Martina De Witte presents a meta-analysis featuring 47 studies, 76 effect sizes and 2.747 participants, which aimed to assess the strength of the effects of music therapy on both physiological and psychological stress-related outcomes, and also to test potential moderators of the intervention effects. De Witte will discuss the findings in terms of their implications for both music therapy and music interventions as a broader concept (e.g., music listening, active music making). She will also consider the importance of developing so-called micro-interventions and conducting research into the mechanisms of change of music interventions.
