Marcel Zentner, University of Innsbruck: "Musicality: Can music aptitude batteries approximate real-life expressions of musical ability?"
Abstract
The talk will begin with a brief overview of the strength and limitations of current batteries for the objective assessment of musical aptitude. I will then describe our own work in this area, notably on the PROMS (Profile of Music Perception Skills) and on recent extensions of the battery devoted to assessing abilities in the reproduction of rhythmic patterns. I will conclude with a discussion about the extent to which music aptitude batteries can provide an approximation to real-life expressions of musical ability.
