The Swedish Research Council is funding a new research project on the effects of a healthy Nordic diet on atherosclerosis and gut microbiota in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Ulf Risérus has been granted SEK 4,800,000 from VR to investigate whether a healthy Nordic diet can slow down atherosclerosis and improve sugar and fat metabolism in patients with a recent heart attack. The impact of the diet on the gut microbiota will be investigated as a potential mediator. Individual responses to dietary treatment will also be studied with the hope of a more individualized treatment of cardiovascular disease.
