Company towns in the Donbass is the focus of a new book by an IRES alumni Volodymyr Kulikov

(Image removed) We are pleased to announce that IRES alumni Volodymyr Kulikov and currently research fellow in the department of history, Karazin Kharkiv National University in Kharkiv, Ukraine,has published a book on the company towns in the Donbass. The volume focusing on the historical relations between enterprises and society in the company towns of the Donbas and Dnieper Regions between 1870 and 1917 (Pidpryjemstva j suspil'stvo v zavods'kyh i shahtars'kyh poselennjah Donbasu ta Prydniprovʼja v 1870–1917 rr.) has been published by the Kharkiv University Press (Kharkiv: Kharkiv University Press, 2019. 388 pp. ISBN 978-966-285-573-9). Dr. Kulikov collected substantial amount of materials for the book and wrote a significant part of the text during his stay at IRES in the fall of 2018. During his stay at IRES, financed by the Swedish Institute, Dr. Kulikov was working on the project “Eastern European Business in a Global Perspective. The Leading Companies in the Early Twentieth Century.” The aim of the project was to construct, visualize, analyze, and publish a data set of the world’s leading companies before World War I with a specific focus on Eastern Europe and Russia, to integrate Eastern Europe into a global history of leading business enterprises and to have a more nuanced understanding of global developments.
