In Memory of Professor Kristian Gerner

We have received the sad news that Professor Kristian Gerner has passed away. He was active for many years at the Department of East European Studies, the predecessor of IRES. Kristian had a deep and wide-ranging knowledge of Russia and Eastern Europe, both historically and in the present day, and also possessed an exceptional analytical ability. He authored numerous significant books, the most recent being Sovjetunionens skendöd: en historia om det moderna Ryssland (2021). Kristian is deeply missed by colleagues and friends.
