Welcome to the higher seminar with Wijnand Boonstra, professor of Natural resources and Sustainable Development at the Department of Geosciences in Uppsala.
Title: Sociologies of scale: The case of the resilience of horsepowered agriculture
About the lecturer:
Wijnand Boonstra is a professor in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development at the Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University. The thematic focus of his research can be summarized broadly as the social dynamics and relations that shape the primary use of natural resources. Through case studies he investigates how farmers and fishers impact and depend upon terrestrial and marine ecologies. And he is particularly interested in understanding (mis)matches between the values, interests of farmers and fishers and the social and ecological opportunities through which they realize their preferred farming and fishing styles. He also works as an associate editor for the journal Ambio: A journal of the Human Environment, which is published by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and Springer, and contributes as lead author to the upcoming IPBES assessment on Transformative Change.
