Physical Activity During Cancer Treatment: Quantitative and Qualitative Mapping of Facilitating Factors and Patient Preferences for Support (BetUCan)
The aim of this project is to increase knowledge about 1) factors that facilitate physical activity and patient preferences for physical activity support during treatment for lymphoma, breast, prostate, lung, or colorectal cancer, and 2) how individualized support to promote physical activity should be designed and provided to these patients. This research project includes two sub-studies.
Sub-study 1 is a broad survey study using a digital questionnaire to map patients’ levels of physical activity, facilitating factors, and preferences for physical activity support. Potential participants who have recently been diagnosed will be identified in the regional tumor registry at the Regional Cancer Center in Mid Sweden.
Sub-study 2 is an interview study in which the results from the survey will form the basis for focus group interviews with patients undergoing cancer treatment.
Data will be collected through focus group interviews. The interviews will begin with questions about participants’ experiences of physical activity during cancer treatment, followed by discussions on the types of support they consider important for physical activity and how such support should be structured.
The project is led by Professor Karin Nordin at the Department of Public Health, Occupational Health, and Rehabilitation at Uppsala University
