Sweden in the spotlight

In December 2024, the Swedish node assumed the chairmanship of EATRIS ERIC (European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine), succeeding Spain.

As the name suggests, Sweden in the spotlight means that the focus will be on raising the profile of the Swedish node, our member infrastructures, participation in EU programmes, project collaborations with industry, and promoting national expertise in translational medicine.

The theme for the coming six months is ‘AI in healthcare – opportunities, challenges and ethical considerations’, and the chairmanship will conclude with both a scientific symposium and the EATRIS annual meeting on 26–28 May in Stockholm.

Under the umbrella of Vinnova and as part of SciLifeLab, the node will address key questions concerning AI under the leadership of National Director Pontus Aspenström and National Coordinator Ulrika Bäckman, with the support of our representative on the EATRIS board, Annika Jenmalm Jensen (Infrastructure Director at SciLifeLab).

“Our aim is not only to advance knowledge of the opportunities AI offers within healthcare and society at large but also to engage with the challenges and ethical considerations that these advances bring,” says Pontus Aspenström, National Director of EATRIS Sweden.

“During our tenure, we also want to establish new collaborations – both nationally with other research infrastructures and between EATRIS nodes – to strengthen Sweden’s position within the consortium further,” notes Ulrika Bäckman, National Coordinator of EATRIS Sweden.
