Professor Ulf Risérus has been elected to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ National Committee for Nutrition and Food Sciences.
Ulf Risérus is Professor of Clinical Nutrition and Metabolism at the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences. His research group studies various dietary effects in relation to type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and cardiovascular disease. Among other things, the group seeks to understand how different fatty acids, as well as various diets, may influence the risk of developing fatty liver, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

He has now been entrusted with the prestigious task of serving on the Academy’s National Committee for Nutrition and Food Sciences.
“It is, of course, a great honour and truly enjoyable to be elected. I genuinely look forward to contributing to the committee and sharing my expertise in the best possible way,” says Ulf.
What does the role entail?
“It involves attending at least two meetings per year,” says Ulf. “These are held at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, and as members of the committee, we work to promote research and education in the field, as well as to foster collaboration between related scientific disciplines. An important task for the committee is also to organise open scientific symposia featuring internationally leading researchers on various timely topics within the field of nutrition. As members, we are also expected to be available as an advisory body to universities and to serve as an expert body for the Academy.”
