New grants for research on cancer, heart and lung
Over the past week, both The Swedish Heart Lung Foundation and The Sjöberg Foundation have announced funding decisions, with researchers at the Disciplinary Domain of Medicine and Pharmacy (Medfarm) receiving significant grants for their research.
From The Swedish Heart Lung Foundation, Uppsala University was awarded a total of SEK 24,900,000, distributed across project grants, research positions and research months. Among the recipients, Gunnar Pejler, Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, and Eva Lindberg, Professor at the Department of Medical Sciences, were each awarded SEK 3,000,000 for their respective research projects.
In the allocation from The Sjöberg Foundation, Medfarm received two grants. Magnus Essand, Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, was awarded SEK 7,500,000 for his project on the development of novel (CAR) T cells with maintained efficacy and reduced side effects.
Åsa Johansson, also Professor at the Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, received SEK 4,500,000 for the project “Hormonal contraceptives for the prevention of ovarian and endometrial cancer”.
