The film Sia – the Dream of the Python (2001) is a cinematic adaptation of the legend of Wagadu, and a political and contemporary approach to the myth, including a reflection on the use of mysticism by power-holders.
The film Sia – the Dream of the Python (2001) is a cinematic adaptation of the
legend of Wagadu (a 7th century myth of the Soninke people in present-day
Mali), and a political and contemporary approach to the myth, including a
reflection on the use of mysticism by power-holders. The film received several
awards, and has been seen as a prime example of artistic integration in West
Africa. After the screening, Film Director Dani Kouyaté and Prof. Sten Hagberg
will discuss with the audience in light of history and political culture.
