This online seminar provides an introduction to neuromorphic computing, a field that seeks to emulate the neural structure and dynamics of brains to enhance computing efficiency.
This seminar provides an introduction to neuromorphic computing, a field that seeks to emulate the neural structure and dynamics of brains to enhance computing efficiency. We will explore the fundamental principles that differentiate neuromorphic computing from traditional computing methods and artificial neural networks. The seminar will start with an overview of the history and motivation for neuromorphic computing, primarily its potential for energy efficiency and sparse, parallel data processing. We will then delve into the unique aspects of neuromorphic systems, such as their use of neuron-like dynamic elements for computation, offering a stark contrast to the sequential state-based processing model of conventional computers and artificial neural networks. The seminar will include some examples and current applications to give a context of its utility, but the primary focus will be on understanding the foundational concepts.
