Welcome to the 16th AIMday Materials – where challenges faced by industries and organisations convert into research collaborations with academia
- Date: 14 February 2024, 09:00–16:00
- Location: Ångström Laboratory
- Type: Conference
- Organiser: Ångström Materials Academy (ÅMA) together with Uppsala University Innovation Partnership Office (UU Samverkan)
- Contact person: Helena Bysell
AIMday Materials is a day of in-depth, science-based discussions seeking solutions for concrete challenges raised by participating companies, and organisations, and matched with researchers in the field of materials science at the university. Submit your questions no later than 30 November 2023.
AIMDay Materials presents an exchange of knowledge and ideas focused on finding novel pathways to innovative solutions through collaborations. The aim is to identify points of mutual interest and support research collaboration projects that enable innovations to meet the challenges of tomorrow.
Real life questions are the starting point of discussion. AIMday is not an academic conference in the traditional sense. Instead, questions from companies and organisations are at the very core of the AIMday format. The companies' challenges, formulated as one or more questions, set the agenda for face-to-face discussions with researchers at the university.
If you are a company or an organisation that wants to participate with a challenge, register yourself and your questions no later than 30 November 2023. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you want advice on how to formulate your question before registering.
Once you have submitted your challenge, it will be matched with researchers within the university.
On the day of the event, each topic will be discussed in one-hour-long workshops in small round-table groups.

The next edition of AIMDay Materials is taking place at Ångström Laboratory on Wednesday, 14 February 2024. It is the 16th AIMDay Materials since the start in 2008. For many the event is an established gateway for interaction between industry and academia.
“AIMday is a great meeting format and a very well-organised event with many networking possibilities. I am really looking forward to the next event and to be able to meet in person again to discuss our challenges within materials science. The possibility to apply for seed funding to initiate new collaborations has been important for us, and over the years, we have developed several important long-term collaborations with researchers at Uppsala University.”
Erik Johansson, Principal Scientist, ABB
“AIMday has led to many new and fruitful collaborations with Uppsala University over the years, specifically master thesis projects, which have provided good and important competences to the company. I would estimate that around 80 percent of our submitted questions have generated something concrete, which is very positive.”
Orlando Girlanda, Principal Scientist, Hitachi Energy
